The circular economy in Quebec City

fighting resource waste in action!

This summer, Coop Carbone launched the Communauté de pratique pour l’économie circulaire de la Capitale-Nationale. This is the first time such an initiative has been launched, mobilizing organizations committed to fighting resource waste in the greater Quebec City region.

The Community intends to gather six times a year to implement concrete solutions and take swift action. Open-mindedness, sharing and a deep conviction that “many are better than one”, are the driving forces behind this community. Experts and neophytes come together to learn, share, testify and benefit from experiences already deployed.

The aim is to accelerate action to deploy the circular economy.

Creation of 3 workshops for concrete projects

The enthusiasm for this large-scale project is such that 3 workgroups have been created to develop and implement concrete projects!

These workgroups will focus on the collection and supply of materials, as well as the mutualization of the circular value chain in the Capitale-Nationale region and the expansion of the circular ecosystem! They are chaired respectively by Alain Gaudreau of Entraide Diabétique, Luis Villamizar of Vélo Vert and Axelle Dudouet of Ville de Québec.

A circular ecosystem

To deliver the first theme, Richard Giroux, Senior Consultant in Strategic Planning and Operational Management at MCE Conseils, got the ball rolling. Drawing on the example of ReTuna in Sweden, Mr. Giroux demonstrated the importance of all players in a circular value chain, and their diversity, in restoring fair value to objects and materials that are diverted.

Over the coming weeks, the Community will be addressing issues such as labor shortages, financing and outreach for circular economy businesses. Don’t miss our next newsletter to follow the work of the Chantiers!

Last but not least, the Circular Economy Community of Practice is entered in Québec Circulaire’s Circular Initiatives competition.
